Enrichment Partnership Pilot: Final Steps

Writer's picture: Beth NunnBeth Nunn

We have been doing the Enrichment Partnership Pilot project for nearly a year! Time flies! It has been great to look back and see what we have achieved for this project. To highlight some of the great work we have done, it is important to talk about the schools we have created relationships with for this project. They have been amazing communicating with us, sharing what they want for their schools in terms of enrichment, and the chance to speak to students themselves about what enrichment opportunities they would like to see in their schools. From speaking with the key contacts from the schools at our latest cluster meeting, they shared with us developments in their school’s enrichment in regards to connecting with outside organisations. Some of the schools have connected with a local fencing club and have started an afterschool fencing club and Fairfield High School for Girls will be starting self-defence classes provided by a local mixed martial arts organisation. It has been great to see connections between schools and local enrichment providers who were included in our ‘Enrichment Provider Index’ which we provided to schools.

Before Christmas the schools got a chance to attend podcast training session delivered by Vic from Mic Media and three schools have now started their own podcast clubs with a number of students. We also have created our own podcast working with MIC media, discussing the importance of enrichment for young people and tips for teachers and organisations to develop enrichment opportunities for young people. Recently we provided some of our key contacts from the schools (heads of enrichment/assistant heads) with social action training at the PIE office. This will give them a chance to provide social action sessions for students at school whether they add this to curriculum subjects or afterschool activities. We had great feedback from the school staff about this training and we are delivering this training at Hyde High School for other staff members.

For the final steps of the Enrichment Partnership Pilot we are working with each school to create a final evaluation of the project, gathering data (pupil voice) from each school and comparing this with the data and reports we created for each school last year. We are also offering the schools an ‘Enrichment Spotlight Week’, performing a large data catch to represent pupils’ recent engagement with enrichment which will help the schools with the tracking of enrichment. We will also deliver focus groups with students to collect qualitative data showing their opinions about enrichment in their school.

Last Wednesday we attended the last in person EPP: Centre of Learning event in Leeds with the other coordinating organisations from the North West, North East and Midlands. It was great to see what our work for the EPP project can do for changes to the development of enrichment in schools and how it is valued in the education system. It was lovely to see what the other coordinating organisations have done for this project. Beth presented what we have done and our plan for the final steps of the project.
