The 11th of March saw our past and present Wavers gathering in Stockport to celebrate International Women’s Day. Inspired by our Creative Wavers and their talents; so many of our women have found employment, self employment and comfort through the tough times with crafting so what better way to celebrate how amazing women are by getting our craft on!
We had the lovely Kimmy from Self Care Creatives running journalling & colouring activities. Next we had Affirmations with Sarah from Yellow Brick Art Social. Sarah ran a gorgeous session creating affirmation cards for ourselves as well as making one for another woman to take home with her! Of course no session would be complete without Jen from MakeGood who ran a session all around the Mother Tree.
Ciara joined us making a podcast about the event and speaking to our wonderful women about what the Wave of Change programme has meant to them. She had this to say:
"The Create to Accelerate event was a lovely event to be part of! Seeing the women who have been involved in the Wave Of Change programme deliver creative activities for other women was amazing. You could see how passionate they were about the work they are doing and how they create a lovely space for women to be creative. During the event, I had the pleasure of recording some podcast clips of women who organised the event and women who how been attending the wave of change sessions for a few years, and how they have benefited from it. As it was a celebration for international women’s day, some of the women shared how they think we can accelerate change in society so women can have the space to be who they are!"
We were then treated to a delicious lunch from, local business woman, Blessing from MMP Bakery - the food was incredible! Throughout the day Nikki, an ex-waver, was on hand photographing the event with her NJM Photography hat on - we can’t wait to see the results!
Beth said, "As always, it was lovely to bring the Wave of Change community together to create, chat and accelerate ourselves and each other!"
Simone said, "We love bringing everyone together, but what's special for me is when we re-invest our budget into our community of women changemakers."
It was a great event and a good opportunity to get all our wavers together, especially to celebrate International Women's Day. This event was possible due to funding from UKSPF and Stockport Council.
